In no particular order:
- Dear Prudence
- While My Guiter Gently Weeps
- Happiness is a Warm Gun
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band
- Oh! Darling
- Helter Skelter (I used to always get the name mixed up with Hellen Keller)
Over Easter I have been rewatching the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and listening to the episodes on them from the Eye of the Duck podcast (which is really great, you should totally check them out) and they talked a lot about the Beatles on there, and also mentioned Peter Jackson's big documentary on them: The Beatles: Get Back. Watching it now, it made me think a lot about the band, one I only really got into this past year.
Nothing can make me feel quite so melancholic as late-stage Beatles can. Seeing them sitting together I have this feeling of witnessing an ending, something that was almost too good to last. Sure, I am not as big of a fan of the band as some people, but you can really feel the importance of them and their legacy. When you watch their sessions here you know it won't last - emphasised by them singing All Things Must Pass together early on, the George Harrison song. There's a tension in the air at all time. This might sound stupid, but it reminded me a lot of The Return of the King: they both feel very concerned with endings, endings that at the same time beginnings, death and rebirth.
